Walter AG re-engineers Walter Prototyp blind hole tap

Multitalented with that certain something extra. Its all in the name: The new Walter Prototyp Paradur® Eco Plus blind hole tap from Walter offers the much sought after extra tool life and process reliability.

The new Paradur® Eco Plus, the top seller among the taps from the competence brand Walter Prototyp, offers even more performance than its predecessor. The blind hole tap with a particularly wide range of applications tempts buyers because of its long tool life and excellent process reliability.

The Paradur® Eco Plus is based on a concept which has been tried and tested over many years. The blind hole tap is suitable for an extremely wide range of applications as it has a tool body manufactured out of HSS-E PM and is optionally available with THL or TiN coating, external or internal cooling with radial or axial coolant outlet. For example, the material portfolio includes structural and high tensile steels from 350 N/mm2 to 1400 N/mm2, generally long-chipping or short-chipping materials, abrasive materials and materials which tend to fuse, stainless steels, spheroidal graphite and malleable cast iron, short or long-chipping copper/aluminium alloys. Due to a helix angle of 45 degrees, long flutes and a tapered guide, the Multitalented cuts threads in blind holes up to a depth of 3xD.

On the one hand, it concerns the microgeometry, and on the other the manufacture. The result provides up to 30 percent higher tool life in comparison with the previous state of technology. In a field test, in which M6 blind hole threads were to be cut in locking rings made of V4A steel (1.4542), the Paradur® Eco Plus made 1110 threads, its competitor with a similar design achieved only 720 threads. Due to customer demand, Walter now produces the tool in sizes up to M64, whereas it was previously only available in M2 to M42. Moreover, variants for metric fine threads M6x0.75 to M22x1.5 are available, and there are even variants for inch threads UNC2 to UNC3/4, UNF4 to UNF5/8 and G1/8 to G1. In some cases, there are also left-hand thread variants in standard sizes.
